Introduction-

‘’All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”, is a well-known proverb. Unlike machines, man can not work day and night without rest. Our life will become dull if we are always busy in doing the same work. Leisure saves us from the dullness of life. A hobby is the just use of leisure. By the word hobby, we mean a favorite pursuit that one follows during leisure time for the sake of pleasure.

Different Kinds of Hobbies-

The word ‘hobby’ is taken from ‘hobby horse’ which is a wooden horse, on which small children ride for fun and pleasure. In it ‘H’ stands for happiness, ‘O’ stands for occupation, ‘B’ stands for beneficial, ‘B’ stands for best, and ‘Y’ stands for you. This analysis tells that a hobby is the best beneficial occupation that gives you happiness.

There are different kinds of hobbies. Just as nature varies from person to person does hobby. Different people have different hobbies. Some persons are interested in collecting stamps and coins from different countries, while others are fond of collecting flowers, reading books of different kinds. Some people spend their leisure in painting, music, and dancing. There are others who are interested in photography, gardening, and boating. Some are fond of reading novels and writing stories.-

My Favourite Hobby-

A hobby is meant to give us pleasure. My favorite hobby is gardening. Gardening is the practice of growing and cultivating plants as a part of horticulture.  I am very much interested in it. I have got some open space near my house and I am able to utilize my leisure hours in my small garden. Gardening is a very good hobby. It keeps a man busy in useful activities. Moreover, it keeps him away from follies. Digging, sowing and watering are also a form of exercise which my hobby gives me.

Advantages of my Hobby-

My hobby has improved my health a lot. It is also useful to me in many other ways. In the beginning, I was very weak, but now I am very strong and healthy. It has given me mental peace. My hobby is also a source of happiness for me. It brings me in close contact with the natural environment. My hobby is quite constructive in nature. It is profitable as well. I am able to grow some vegetables and flowers and fruits in my spare time. Whenever I feel monotonous I prefer to go to my garden. The beauty of my nature garden rehabilitates me and provides me pleasure. This connection with nature fills me with vitality. I learned a lot from my hobby. It is because of my hobby I am able to understand the importance of the natural environment. 

Conclusion-

In the end, I can say that my hobby – gardening –is a very useful and amusing engagement for me. It has improved my health also. It has given me mental peace because I am in close contact with nature in its pursuit.
