This article on Women Empowerment Essay deals with issues related to the self-reliant conditions of women, giving them opportunities, making them empowered, etc. As in the past, for some time women were kept boxed up in their houses in India, But gradually the scenario changed. So let’s start this article on Women Empowerment Essay …
Introduction-
Woman is God’s best creation. She adds beauty and Charm to every aspect of life and woman is the perennial source of inspiration for men in the Odyssey of life. Everything good in this world comes from woman. When God created man he also created woman because he knew that man alone would not sustain the world.
Past scenario of women position-
In ancient times women had an honorable position in the society. They were equal partners of men in every field of life. Sita, Savitri, Gargi, and Anusuya are the pillars of Indian womanhood. During the Muslim rule of medieval India, women lost their position of honour and right of equality. They were kept within the four walls of the house. During the British rule, their position remained unchanged. They were deemed fit only to perform domestic work. Gradually their condition changed.
Women’s position in free India-
A great change has come in the position of women after Indian Independence. Our constitution has given equal rights of women in all fields of life. They have been given equal voting rights with men. They now enjoy a place of honour in society. Today women are successfully playing their role as teachers, engineers, lawyers, administrators, politicians, and social workers.
In the political field, women are playing their role successfully. A few years ago late Mrs. Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister of India. She was a leader of world fame. Mrs. Vijayalakshmi Pandit occupied the chair of President of the United Nations Organisation. Mrs. Kiran Bedi was a successful police officer. Kalpana Chawla, an American Astronaut of Indian Origin. These women are proud of India.
If you have a look on the other side of women’s position in new India we find that except a few successful and strong women in general still, their position is not sound. In homes and outside homes, their exploitation is continuing. Even in big cities cases of rape, molestation, murder, discrepancy, torture, etc. are increasing day by day. At working places many times they are very insecure.
How to tackle these challenging issues?
Woman is no longer confined within the four walls of the house. She is on the way of progress. Society can make them self-reliant by providing them opportunities. The real jewellery of women is education. It is certainly true that if one man studies, only one person is educated whereas if a lady studies, the entire family is educated. A self-dependent girl becomes able to take self-decision because of her education. She can make her own identity in society. A career improves personality and thinking of a girl. Thus there should be no discrimination in education of a girl and a boy.
Still burning unanswerable questions?
We all know that today’s girl would be tomorrow’s mother. Then why is there large-scale discrimination against women? Why are women treated as second-class citizens since their birth? Why is the desire for a son is so strong in every family in India? We even deny the girl child the right to be born! And her only crime is that SHE IS A GIRL! Is girlhood a stigma? Can we dream of a society with just male population? Why then through sex determination tests, we indulge in the crime of female foeticide? Why do we possess such a partial approach to women? Think about these burning issues related to women.
Conclusion-
She is next to God. She is a producer, a protector, and a provider, a power of tolerance and embodiment of love and affection, understanding and sacrifice and so many other qualities wrapped in one. Society must change its outlook towards women. They should be respected and co-operated. People should realize that women too have desires and feelings. They should be provided enough latitude to fulfill their ambitions. It is absolutely correct to say that when woman moves, the family moves, the society moves, and the nation moves.
